The Diagnosis and treatment of BLADDER CANCER at Dr Onyango Oluoch’s Clinic involves a team of specialists. Bladder cancer can be treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy and trimodal therapy, and surgery. A combination of these treatment options are used in conjunction with each other. Patients diagnosed with certain types of bladder cancers may be suitable for bladder washouts to try to reduce the risk of recurrence of further tumours. Recurrence of bladder tumours is common. We are Prostate Cancer Screening Clinic in Nairobi, Kenya. We undertake cancer screening on patients to detect its possible presence before symptoms appear. Prostate Cancer Diagnosis is primarily aimed at finding the cancers early before they spread. Individuals with a high probability of developing of developing prostate cancer should begin screening in their 40s. If screening results show abnormalities, a biopsy may be necessary to confirm the presence of prostate cancer.
We apply two commonly used tests to screen for prostate cancer namely, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) and Biopsy. Those thinking of being screened, diagnosed, or treated need to learn about the possible benefits and harms by freely talking to their doctor about their personal risk factors.
Prostate Cancer is one of the most common cancers for the male gender. Dr Onyango Oluoch – Urologist, recommends to men 40-50 years old with fathers or siblings with history of prostate cancer to undertake early diagnostic tests and consequent treatment options should the result be positive. We apply two tests that are commonly used to screen for prostate cancer, namely Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Test and Biopsy.
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Test
A blood test called a prostate specific antigen (PSA) test measures the level of PSA in the blood. PSA is a substance made by the prostate. The levels of PSA in the blood can be higher in men who have prostate cancer. The PSA level may also be elevated in other conditions that affect the prostate.
As a rule, the higher the PSA level in the blood, the more likely a prostate problem is present. But many factors, such as age and race, can affect PSA levels. Some prostate glands make more PSA than others.
PSA levels also can be affected by
• Certain medical procedures
• Certain medications
• An enlarged prostate
• A prostate infection
Biopsy
Biopsy, as a procedure is the absolute method for confirming a prostate cancer diagnosis. The biopsy results provide invaluable insights into the cancer’s characteristics, such as its aggressiveness and stage, which are essential for tailoring an effective treatment plan. For men with elevated PSA levels or other concerning factors, a prostate biopsy may be recommended. This diagnostic procedure involves obtaining tissue samples from the prostate gland for microscopic examination.

Are suffering from sudden and uncontrolled need or urge to go urinate, making you vulnerable to leaking urine when you feel the urge to pee? Do you experience frequent urination during the day and or night? If your answer to these conditions is yes, then these are symptoms of Overactive Bladder (OAB), a group of urinary symptoms as it is not a disease.
How is overactive bladder treated?
Dr Onyango Oluoch – Urologist, offers a number of treatment options to manage overactive bladder, including Bladder Reconstruction or Urinary Diversion Surgery, this type of surgery is used in very rare and serious cases. There are two types of bladder surgeries, namely augmentation cystoplasty, where the bladder is enlarged and urinary diversion surgery, where the urine is rerouted.
Nerve stimulation also called neuromodulation therapy; is also another treatment solution for people who need extra help. This treatment involves sending electrical pulses to the nerves which share the same path for the bladder so that the bladder can be able to function properly.
Symptoms of Overactive Bladder
Overactive bladder symptoms include the need or urge to urinate that is difficult to control, the involuntary leak of urine immediately followed by the urgent need to urinate, frequent urinating and awakening two or more times in the night to urinate.
Overactive Bladder can be problematic
Overactive bladder may get in the way of your work, social life, school life, and exercise and sleep as you will always have the need or urge to urinate. Left untreated, overactive bladder symptoms may make it difficult to get through the day without making many trips to the bathroom.

URINARY INCONTINENCE (UI) negatively affects one’s ability to control their bladder, causing embarrassment and impacts negatively on both their professional and social well being. If coughing, laughing, sneezing and physical activity cause you to leak urine, you may be suffering from Urinary or Stress Incontinence. This type of bladder problem is common and is often related to physical changes resulting from childbirth, age in men, pregnancy, and menopause in women.
The first step towards relief from bladder problems is to have an assessment. Dr Oluoch Onyango – Urologist, and his team are dedicated to giving you the most advanced and up-to-date treatment options available. Prior to any procedure, all patients are examined to ensure there are no underlying medical problems. We understand the impact urinary incontinence can have on an individual. For this reason, we offer a range of medical solutions that can resolve UI effectively, including surgery and medication.
Types of urinary incontinence we treat include:
• Stress incontinence. Urine leaks when you exert pressure on your bladder by coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising or lifting something heavy.
• Urge incontinence. You have a sudden, intense urge to urinate followed by an involuntary loss of urine. You may need to urinate often, including throughout the night. Urge incontinence may be caused by a minor condition, such as infection, or a more severe condition such as a neurological disorder or diabetes.
• Overflow incontinence. You experience frequent or constant dribbling of urine due to a bladder that doesn't empty completely.
• Functional incontinence. A physical or mental impairment keeps you from making it to the toilet in time. For example, if you have severe arthritis, you may not be able to unbutton your pants quickly enough.
• Mixed incontinence. You experience more than one type of urinary incontinence — most often this refers to a combination of stress incontinence and urge incontinence.
Feel comfortable to discuss incontinence with Dr Onyango Oluoch – Urologist, as it may:
• Cause you to restrict your activities and limit your social interactions
• Negatively impact your quality of life
• Increase the risk of falls in older adults as they rush to the toilet
• Indicate a more serious underlying condition

A URINARY TRACT INFECTION (UTI) is an infection that involves the structures that urine passes through before being eliminated from the body (i.e. the kidneys, ureters, bladder, or urethra).
Infection in the upper urinary tract, comprising the kidneys and ureters generally affects the kidneys (pyelonephritis), which causes fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, and other severe symptoms.
Equally, infections in the lower urinary tract, comprising the bladder and the urethra, can affect the urethra (iurethritis) or the bladder (cystitis).
While Urinary Tract Infections are much more common in adults than in children, urinary tract infections in children are more likely to be serious than those in adults. Besides bedwetting, urinary tract infection is the most common urinary tract problem in children.
The symptoms of a Urinary Tract Infection may include:
• Cloudy, dark, bloody, or strange-smelling pee
• A burning feeling when urinating
• Pain or pressure in the back or lower abdomen
• A frequent and/or intense urge to urinate,
• Feeling tired or shaky
• Fever or chills (which is a sign that the infection may have reached the kidneys)
TYPES OF URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS
Each type of UTI may result in more-specific signs and symptoms, depending on which part of the urinary tract is infected.
• Kidneys (Acute Pyelonephritis)
• Urethra (Urethritis)
• Bladder (Cystitis)
TREATMENT
A person may be admitted to hospital if they have symptoms of pyelonephritis and;
• Has kidney stones
• Has a device such as a urinary catheter
• Appear very ill
• Is pregnant
• Has not gotten better with outpatient antibiotic treatment
• Has underlying diseases that compromise the immune system (e.g. diabetes)
• Is unable to keep anything in the stomach because of nausea or vomiting
• Has previous kidney disease, especially pyelonephritis
Because the symptoms of a urinary tract infection mimic those of other conditions, people should see their health care professionals if a urinary tract infection are suspected. A urine test will be needed to confirm an infection. Avoid self-care.
