PARAPHIMOSIS occurs when the foreskin is pulled back behind the glands (head) of the penis and cannot return to its normal position. This can lead to painful swelling and restricted blood flow, which, if untreated, may cause tissue damage.
Key Facts:
• Cause: Often results from forcefully retracting a tight foreskin or leaving it retracted during medical procedures.
• Symptoms: Pain, swelling, and inability to move the foreskin forward.
• Treatment: Immediate medical intervention is necessary. Treatments may include manual manipulation to reduce swelling, the use of ice packs, or, in severe cases, a minor surgical procedure.
If you experience symptoms of paraphimosis, it is important to seek prompt medical help. For evaluation, diagnosis, and management, please visit Dr. Onyango Oluoch or call 0721850826.
