   Great Guards

   Any person who has been in Kenya long enough knows just how obnoxious security guards can get. Of all security guards I have encountered Securex has the best trained Guards. These guys are not only professional but also friendly and humane! So even when am dolled up or when am in my 'Crazy Muzungu' slippers, the guards never seem to mind or treat me differently. A couple of months ago, I was home alone and I thought (maybe it was the wine) I heard someone creeping around the house, withing minutes of pressing the panic button, the securex Patrol car was at my front gate and they even went ahead to patrol up & down the street the entire night! Keep up the good work... Oh and swanky uniforms too :)

   Saving The Last Dance

   I teach Ballet at a Kindergarten in Lavington and last year we had a production of the nut cracker and the kids were super excited. Unfortunately, a few minutes into the Ballet, one of the Kids Pipper, felt drowsy and passed out back stage. I was so worried. The headmistress however was very calm and we drove Pipper to the Gertrudes Childrens Clinic at Lavington. All the while I was very fidgety. The service we received can only be termed as excellent. One of the nurses reassured as and even organised for a hot cup of tea while the doctor ( who came in amazingly fast) attended to Pipper. Before long, we could hear Pipper chuckling and when she came out she had a pink hippo doll under her arm. All well now she was discharged. No long queues, no waiting for doctors from other hospitals, no nasty hospital experience that kids dread. In all the rush we had forgotten to bring some money along and amazingly enough, the hospital made arrangements so we could settle the bill later. If it wasnt for these guys I dont think I would still have a job.... Ohh and Pipper made it in time for the final act and insisted on doing it :)

   Extra Posh... Real Swanky

   Last year, A few friends from Australia came visiting and unfortunately, a couple of my relatives (you know the ones that come and never leave) we staying with us and so our friends couldn't really stay at our house. ( It was pretty cramped up as it was what with cousins bunking up on the sofas) Thats when we discovered this gem. Our friends stayed at the House of Waine for a week and by that time I was ready to move out of our house of relatives to this HOUSE OF WAINE. The rooms... and the view and the food... the foood. The rooms were breath taking. Even the itty bitty ones were really cozy and they had TV (my addiction) and the heated pool... The staff were extra helpful and I almost begun to suspect they used magic to clean because the place is always so neat and you never spot them cleaning. The garden is to die for. This place is breath taking..... So anyone who wants to visit me better be staying here...he he he

   I couldn't Agree More

   As deranged and funny as the previous two reviewers were, to be quite honest, they are right.The Service and food at this place is phenomenal and I think I know the waiter the 1st reviewer was talking about. The guy is very very knowledgeable about both the cuisine and other topics as well. I have not experienced such engaging and personal waiting in a while. Kudos Thai Chi and even more Kudos to the knowledgeable waiter; management should be very careful not to lose him.

   Mounds of Ugali & Athola

   The previous reviewer was full of praise for the Ugali at this place...... Well point of correction please.....Mounds and Mounds of Ugali and Athola are what wins the day for me...This is roasted beef stew ohhh weeee. Enough to turn any vegan into a carnivore. Fried Gizzards accompanied by mounds of Ugali.... Matumbo and Ugali.... This is not to mean that there is no other offering incase you dont like Ugali cause they offer rice, chapati, Mash Potatoes AND UGALI! They do have offerings for vegetarians but am not looking out for them..Am looking out for me and my mounds of Ugali!

   Roof Top and City skyline

   The rooftop bar at the Sankara is truly something magical, Seating by the pool listening to soothing tunes while the charming waiters bring you your mojitos is the best way to unwind. I simply love how the hustle and bustle of westlands seems to be looked at from an elevated platform away from the noise and traffic. Nairobi is very beautiful from this vantage point. My only fear is what happens when it rains? Do they have a thingy that rolls out and you can sit in the rain? That would be really nice

   Crisp, Clean, Classy

   If there is one thing that bars & clubs around Nairobi have neglected its the powder rooms. It's a nightmare trying to tinkle in most places after they have served you with copious amounts of alcohol and all you want to do is have a pit stop. You get to the ladies and there is a queue worse than that from war of the worlds. Thats the same thingI was expecting at the Mercury Lounge but am pleased to announce that no such queue faced me. The Ladies was a divinje place, no pushing and jostling or piss stains on the floor. Very clean and crsip just as it should be. The service is good and prompt and the management mingles with their customers which is a very good sign. At the end of the day I feel kinda bad saying this place is a must visit because then the rough crowd will come and spoil all this goodness. Here is a hint... please tip the waiting staff, they are the best I have seen in a while and ran rugged to make sure everyone was happy... even though the place was packed.
