LAPAROSCOPIC HYSTERECTOMY WORKSHOP IN KENYA

14 Oct, 2023 3:02 PM

Welcome to Hands-on Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy training program for Gynaecologists and Surgeons in Nairobi, Kenya. 3rd Park Hospital is organizing a Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Hands-on Training Program, a CPD Accredited Workshop that will be led by our experienced, pro-active, highly qualified doctors at 3rd Park Hospital.

From training basics like diagnostic laparoscopy to advanced procedures like total laparoscopic hysterectomies, this workshop will give pure hands-on experience to our trainees as we believe surgery cannot be learned by observing but only by performing. With the advent of laparoscopy being considered as an important subspecialty in gynecology, comes the need for carefully structured laparoscopy training programs in Kenya.

Course Objectives
• Tips and Tricks
• Live Surgery Demo
• Safety First
• Difficult Scenarios Tackled

Hysterectomy is the most frequently performed major gynaecological procedure. Traditionally performed as an abdominal or open operation, laparoscopy has demonstrated to be both effective and safe with multiple well-established advantages including decreased rates of surgical complications and improved recovery with reduced postoperative pain and shorter hospital stay. For these reasons, Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (LH) is considered the gold standard surgical option for the treatment of both benign gynecological conditions and early-stage endometrial cancer

ENDOMETRIOSIS SURGICAL COURSE IN NAIROBI

09 Oct, 2023 1:44 PM

Endometriosis is a condition that affects females’ quality of life and general well-being. It happens when tissue that is similar to that of endometrial tissue grows outside the uterus. It can be difficult to diagnose and carries several complications such as fibroid and hormone dependent diseases. It can block the fallopian tubes, creating a breeding ground for cysts formation due to trapped blood. Tissues can also fuse, leading to changes in the reproductive organs.

The tissue can develop anywhere in the body, but it usually affects the pelvic area, including:
• The ovaries
• The fallopian tubes
• Tissues that support the uterus
• The outside of the uterus

Endometriosis is characterized with severe pain conditions, relatively heavy and unusual menstrual bleeding and even infertility, which may affect a person’s chances of becoming pregnant.

Dr Yamal Patel and his colleagues at 3rd Park Hospital have scheduled an ENDOMETRIOSIS SURGICAL COURSE WORKSHOP where around 15 women suffering from endometriosis and Adenomyosis have been lined up to be operated on, as the participants will be taken

Dr. Yamal's Clinic - LAPAROSCOPY SUTURING COURSE IN KENYA

LAPAROSCOPY SUTURING COURSE IN KENYA

09 Oct, 2023 8:53 AM

Dr Yamal Patel is one of the highly respected trainers at hands-on LAPAROSCOPIC SUTURING WORKSHOP in Nairobi, Kenya – offered at 3rd Park Hospital – The Specialised Hospital in Kenya. Learning by doing provides real laparoscopic surgery experience by allowing the trainee to directly get hands exposure on whatever surgeons are learning, hence develops a sense of empowerment. Emphasis is placed on practical problems that a Laparoscopic Surgeon encounters on a day-to-day basis. It offers a comprehensive laparoscopic surgery training course for general surgeons, gynecologists, and urologists. The training program is designed to provide both basic and advanced theoretical and practical experience to the candidates.

One of the most critical and difficult acts in lap surgery is the knot tying and suturing techniques. The knots performed laparoscopically must be as safe as the ones performed conventionally. Proficiency in suturing is mandatory for advanced operative laparoscopy. Over the duration of the workshop, this suturing course takes you through practical and didactic sessions to cover the art of tissue approximation by suturing using endo-trainers, synthetic and animal tissue models.

This course includes a pre-test and post-test along with an instructional session in a controlled setting. The course equips attendees with improved suturing skills to apply in various surgical situations. With the development and ubiquitous use of minimally invasive surgery, the advanced laparoscopic skill such as suturing is an essential skill for performing laparoscopic procedures.

COURSE FORMAT
• Two days- Didactic and dry lab practice
• Pre and post-test assessments
• Live surgery

COURSE OBJECTIVES
This course exposes the trainees to the following:
• To be able to safely introduce and set the needle into an appropriate position
• To be able to pass the needle and suture through tissue at a suitable depth and distance
• To tie a safe lap knot
• To be able to demonstrate continuous suturing, maintaining tension and completing the suture line safely
• To be able to explain ergonomics, theory of rationale for reproducible lap suturing

DRY LAB
• Needle setting
• Needle passing and removing -accuracy
• Knot tying – intracorporal
• Extracorporeal knotting
• Continuous suturing/ interrupted suturing
• Vertical suturing
• Left and right hand suturing
• Vault closure
• Bowel suturing
• Bladder suturing
• Tube/uterus suturing- hollow structure

WHO CAN ATTEND?
• This workshop is strongly recommended for consultants in any specialty (General surgery, Gynae, or Urology) who wish to refine their lap suturing skills.
• Residents in training.

By the end of the course, attending surgeons and gynecologists should be able to confidently perform all the taught procedures on their own patients. We provide structured lectures that are complemented with exercises under the watchful eyes of the faculty. This ensures that participants receive sufficient theoretical knowledge and the right experience to develop hand-eye coordination. After taking this laparoscopic training course, Surgeon and Gynecologist can perform laparoscopic surgery themselves on their patient with confidence.
